Sustainable Gastronomy Week
Sustainable Gastronomy Week (SGW) is a global initiative launched by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to raise awareness of sustainability in food systems—from farm to table and back to the earth. Malmö Food Council is proud to host and develop this event locally for Malmö and the Söderslätt region. This Project is financed by Leader Söderslätt and the EU.
About

Why SGW in Malmö?
SGW in Malmö is more than a food event. It's a movement that brings together private and public food actors, local producers, educators, and the general public to explore how food can drive positive change. Our vision is to inspire action through real examples of regenerative, circular, and socially sustainable gastronomy.

Den planetära matbutiken
What would a grocery store look like if it operated within the boundaries of our planet? Imagine if every item on the shelves was produced and sold with the wellbeing of both people and the planet in mind. Welcome to 'Den Planetära Matbutiken'— a thought experiment and immersive experience where we explore and co-create the grocery store of the future. Join us for an after work to learn and mingle, there will be a speech at 18:00 o'clock.

MFC meets Ödet
Join us for a film screening and workshop centered around the themes of food waste and local community fridges at house Ödet in Malmö. This event invites reflection, dialogue, and action on how we can reduce food waste and build stronger local food networks.

Seaweed Tour at Ribersborg
Discover the fascinating world of (edible) seaweed during a guided tour along the Ribersborg shoreline. Learn about local marine ecosystems, sustainable harvesting, and how seaweed can play a role in the future of food. On the 13th of June we will be a small group and no kids allowed, on the 14th of June we will be a bigger group and kids will be allowed with a responsible adult.

Urban Farmers Market
The urban farmers of Vintrie are launching their very own market: Vintrie Market, right in the middle of their growing fields. Come and enjoy locally grown vegetables and flowers for sale, food crafts, fresh pizza, and fika. The day will also feature a curated exhibition and conversations in collaboration with Fair Trade City.

Sweden’s Southernmost Food Lab – MFC + Red Sails
Red Sails and Malmö Food Council invite chefs, bakers, and local producers to a day of inspiration and collaboration, developing dishes guided by FAO’s sustainability principles. After the lab, the public is welcome to join for tastings and the chance to meet and connect with local food artisans and producers. No sign up needed for this market, if you want to join the event before, you will need to write us an email below.

MFC Takes Over Mitt Möllan
Malmö Food Council hosts a public SWOT analysis at Mitt Möllan, exploring how the Möllan area can move toward more circular and sustainable goals in the future. Join the conversation and help shape a vision for a greener, fairer food hub.

Workshop with Surfit and Evening at Rådhuset
Participate in an engaging workshop with Surfit, focusing on sustainable food practices and local engagement.

Later, join us for an evening mingle at Rådhuset featuring a menu crafted from local producers and participants from the MFC food incubator. This is the perfect setting for networking and inspiration.

Sustainable Gastronomy Day with Circular Gastronomy
Join us for a full day dedicated to sustainable food systems, co-hosted by Circular Gastronomy and Malmö Food Council. The day includes seminars and hands-on workshops for chefs and food professionals, exploring circular practices and future-focused gastronomy. The program wraps up with an after-work gathering at Fruktstereo, featuring a circular drinks hub.
