In October 2023, we gathered various stakeholders among the urban farmers in Vintrie. Important discussions, insights, and future outlooks on cultivation and food production were on the agenda. It was a knowledge-packed and sunny start to the day! We discussed how to make small-scale, sustainably grown food more accessible. Urban farmer Göran from vegostan shared his journey, now in his fifth season, emphasizing developing resilient conditions and work practices over growth.
Annica Axelsson, Head of Sustainability and Monitoring at Malmö's procurement unit, introduced us to the Dynamic Purchasing System, which allows more small farmers and food actors to participate in public gastronomy. This groundbreaking work helps Malmö city specify its intent to serve seasonal and locally rooted goods, benefiting local producers and the economy. Additionally, it includes requirements for free educational visits to raise food awareness, with 10% of the budget allocated for this purpose. There's still much work to be done, but what a step in the right direction this is!
This activity is funded by Leader Söderslätt, the eu and co-funded by the City of Malmö.
