With the Innovationsplattform Stad, the city aims to ensure that within a decade, one-third of the food consumed in Malmö will be produced, processed, and sold locally. The total project cost is estimated at 6.4 million SEK, and with food tech being a rapidly growing field, global investments in the sector reached 9.5 billion euros in 2022 – three times more than the previous year. Food is also seen as the most crucial area for achieving climate goals.
Innovationsplattform Stad is one of eight national innovation platforms selected in November 2023 to help transform the food system, a task seen as essential for both human and environmental sustainability. The initiative brings together numerous businesses and organizations to collaborate on the mission of reshaping the food industry. This includes efforts such as system mapping, idea generation, and prototyping for future innovative solutions.
Malmö City leads the project, working in partnership with Innovation Skåne and EY Doberman, with the initiative officially launched in November 2023.
