Malmö Food Council joins SURFIT Project

We’re thrilled to announce that Malmö Food Council is now part of the SURFIT project, running from February 2024 to January 2027. Funded by DUT/JPI Urban Europe and Formas, this initiative aims to revolutionize urban food systems by shortening the food supply chain and connecting local producers directly with consumers.

The SURFIT project, led by Maastricht University with partners including the University of Trento, Jagiellonian University, SLU Alnarp, and WWF, focuses on "catalysers"—strategic levers that help scale sustainable food networks (SFNs) while delivering ecological and socio-economic benefits. By bringing together SFNs, policymakers, and researchers from four mid-size cities, the project will use Urban Food Labs to explore and design these catalysers.

The goal is to create design principles and guidance for scaling SFNs, integrating them with urban resource systems, and ensuring healthy, sustainable food reaches all inhabitants. We’re excited to contribute to this transformative effort and look forward to the innovations that will emerge from this collaboration.
